Nutrition
Nutrition is half the focus when creating a healthy lifestyle. The nutrition counselor provides information, educational materials, support, and follow-up to help the individual make and maintain the needed dietary changes. The nutrition counselor and client work together to identify areas where change is needed, prioritize changes, and problem solve as to how to make the changes. Nutrition Counseling can help one learn to create a meal plan that can work for them and their family. A typical session may incorporate many of these topics:
• Share and explore your current diet/practices/food beliefs
• Learn how nutrition affects (positively or negatively) your physical performance and/or disease/condition
• Discuss and set individualized nutrition and fitness goals
• Develop a personalized meal plan
• Learn skills and techniques that will enable you to make needed changes
(i.e. label reading, self- monitoring of food, how to balance meals to feel satisfied)
• Explore what may be holding you back from making the necessary changes and learn
techniques to overcome these obstacles
• Learn how to combat emotional eating
• Learn how to eat more slowly with mindful eating practices
• Learn and practice how to eat healthy while “going out” for meals
• Identify barriers that inhibit your abiity to change your eating patterns
• Create healthy recipes and know what to look for at the grocery store
• Home visits to help you create a system for healthy eating, planning, and preparation
In Person, Phone, and E-mail nutrition coaching packages are available to best support your healthy eating practices.
